In the state of Nuevo Leon, northeast of Mexico, a little girl was born with an animal-like tail above her tailbone. According to doctors, this is the first case of its kind recorded in Mexico and was reported in the Journal of Pediatric Surgery Case Report.
Two months after her birth, the girl underwent surgery and doctors were able to remove her tail. She is doing well after her surgery and is currently living a normal life.
The tail was 5.7 cm long and 3 to 5 mm in diameter and had grown 0.8 cm two months after birth just before it was removed. According to a postoperative examination, the tail was normally connected to the girl’s nervous system since it had arteries and nerves normally.
This phenomenon is very rare. Worldwide, 195 cases of such real human tails have been reported.
