New light is shining on SC Gullah-Geechee stories, as told by documentary makers
For centuries, South Carolina Gullah-Geechee stories have been woven into the fabric of the Lowcountry. Lately, there has been an increased effort to broadcast the many stories that shine a light on how integral the Gullah-Geechee culture is to the American experience, including some local film projects.
Charleston poet co-founds national collective to showcase women of color
In January, Charleston poet Emily Wingfield connected with five other BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) poets from across America on social media and realized there was a community like her, even if she couldn’t see it in person. The group with a goal of promoting and supporting other BIPOC women poets has been titled Tenderheart Collective.
